Hon'ble CM interacted with SsP of Kandhamal, Bolangir & congratulated for their spectacular success in Naxal operation. Declared special reward of 10 lakhs each to the op teams in both the districts.

A rare day of phenomenal success in an operation in Baragarh & Bolangir Districts, 6 Maoists got killed in 2 different operations and they include 2DCMs, 10 firearms including 2AK47 were recovered.     Cadre Maoist of SDS Division (Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundergarh) Dayananda and Jally Dehury surrendered before S.P., Angul. They have been working in the SDS Division since 2000 and were active at Angul Tikarpada area


      Kunu Dehury, S/o – late Gobardhan Dehury of village Tamparsingha, PS – Jujumara, District – Sambalpur, Divisional Committee Secretary (DCS) of Sambalpur – Deogarh – Sundargarh (S-D-S) Division of the CPI (Maoist), surrendered today i.e. on 13.04.2018 before Sambalpur District Police. He carries a cash reward of Rs. 8.00 lakh. Kunu Dehury joined erstwhile Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCC-I) in the year 2002. Subsequently, he was elevated to the rank of Divisional Committee Secretary in CPI (Maoist) organization in the year 2015. He was leading S-D-S Division, which is operating in Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh Districts. Over the years, he had established himself as a leader spearheading naxal activities in S-D-S and adjoining Districts. He was involved in as many as 51 cases (42 in Sambalpur District, 05 in Rourkela Police District and 04 in Deogarh District). He surrendered before Odisha Police having lost faith in the ideology of the CPI (Maoist) organization and dwindling support base as a result of intensive operations by the security forces. "His case will be examined as per the existing Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the State Government".


During the year, 2017, no terrorist activity has been noticed in the State and on intelligence inputs the terrorist activities in the State have been contained effectively. However, advisories and alert messages are being issued to all Dist. Ss.P. from time to time on possible terrorist activities in the State.


Activities of the Left Wing Extremists (LWE) remained under control in the State during the year 2017. No Maoist activities were noticed in five districts i.e. Gajapati, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Nabarangpur. Maoist activity was contained to a large extent in Nuapada, Boudh, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh districts. The problem remained challenging in parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Angul, Bolangir and Bargarh districts in terms of the movement and activities of armed CPI (Maoist) groups. 52 LWE related incidents were reported in the State during the period, which included 15 incidents of exchanges of fire, mostly due to Police initiatives. As many as 7 CPI (Maoist) cadres were killed, 35 arrested and 26 surrendered in the State during the period. 16 weapons, 23 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and large quantity of ammunition and other Maoist articles were recovered during anti-naxal operations.
